Course Objectives:

 A seminar course with a historical and theoretical investigation in the subject of art.

This seminar course structured for under graduate and graduate students to examine, experience and interact individually with a group of invited seminal figures in contemporary art and in interrelated discipline.

Course Content:

The weekly seminar structured through invitations to lecturers in various areas of discipline, with biased towards visual art and of national and internationally known recognized artists, filmmakers, art historian, critics, architects, and musicians…

Course Requirements:

Attendance: Attendance is mandatory - it is required to attend each seminar. If a class is missed, the student is responsible for making up missed work.  Any absences will negatively impact your final grade - three absences will result in failure. Consideration

will be extended to legitimate excused absences: illness, family emergency, religious observations, and involvement in university-sponsored activities. 

Assignments:  Each student is expected to fulfill and complete assignments. Contextual information in reference to individual lecturer provided weekly - each student is required to research individual artist/topics prior to upcoming lectures.  Assigned work must be finished by the due dates.  Each student will be solely responsible for his or her own written thesis work conceptually and structurally.

Grading:

Grades will be based on attendance, class participation, and thesis papers written.  Midterm grades will be given, usually in concordance with the professor meeting for each individual student.

Final Review:

It is mandatory for each student to attend the final exam.  The exam schedule is determined by the University to avoid overlapping or conflicting examination times.  Please be aware of your schedule as it pertains to the end of the semester and report any perceived conflicts to the instructor immediately.  Grades will be posted on the UNLV web site the first Wednesday following the Final Review.
